Third Trimester Of Pregnancy – 28 Weeks To 40 Weeks

Are you in your third trimester of pregnancy? While you and your baby bump are almost two-thirds of the way there, your baby still has plenty of growing to do. In fact, during your third trimester, which is between 28 and 40 weeks of pregnancy, your little one experiences major transitions as it rapidly gains weight, its organs develop, and its skin takes on a new appearance.

Before you get ready to welcome your little miracle, let's explore their development in the third trimester. Scroll down!

Fetal Development in the Third Trimester - An Overview

Let's understand the fetal development in the third-trimester week-by-week:

  • 28th Week - By the end of this week, your baby’s hair, eyelashes, and eyebrows will be noticeable. They will also be opening and closing their eyes while reacting to light.

  • 29th Week - Your baby will gain around 7 ounces this week. They can now kick, stretch, and make grasping movements.

  • 30th Week - Once you reach this stage, as per the pregnancy calculator, your baby's senses will be completely developed.

  • 31st Week - Vernix (protective coating) and lanugo (fine hair layer) will begin to disappear. The baby’s head will be more in proportion to the body.

  • 32nd Week - Your baby's skin will become less wrinkled and be about 18 inches long in size.

  • 33rd Week - Most babies will move to a head down or cephalic position in the uterus by this week. They will continue to stay in the position until delivery.

  • 34th Week - Your baby’s skin will start to become more pink and they begin to blink.

  • 35th Week - The baby’s fingernails and toenails have now grown to the end of their fingers and toes.

  • 36th Week - Most of the baby's organs are now mature, and the lungs will continue to mature. They will be about 19 inches long.

  • 37th Week - Your baby will begin to gain weight, making them appear plumper.

  • 38th Week - The baby will gain around 1 ounce of weight each day and may move down into your pelvic area.

  • 39th Week - Your baby is now fully developed, with fine hair remaining only on arms and shoulders.

  • 40th Week - This week marks the end of your pregnancy journey, where you will be waiting for your little one to arrive.
